Dr Ivan Henry Meyer is the Western Cape Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, a position he has held since June 2024.

A seasoned public servant, he brings extensive experience in governance, having previously served as Minister of Social Development, Sport and Cultural Affairs, Finance, and Agriculture, as well as Leader of Government Business. His leadership across these portfolios has been marked by consistent efforts to strengthen service delivery and economic resilience.

Christo van der Rheede is a respected South African leader with extensive experience across the agricultural, business and public sectors, as well as in advancing the constitutional democracy. He is widely recognised for his strategic insight into economic inclusion, land reform and governance.

He began his career in education in 1986, serving as a teacher and principal, before moving into organised agriculture as Executive Director of Agri SA, where he played a key role in shaping discourse on food security, sustainable agriculture and transformation. He served as CEO of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHi), promoting entrepreneurship and the growth of small and medium enterprises.

GENERAL MANAGER, THE MOHAIR EMPOWERMENT TRUST, MOHAIR SOUTH AFRICA

Beauty Mokgwamme farms Angora goats and heads up the Mohair Empowerment Trust, which she joined in 2018. She has more than 15 years’ experience in agriculture, specialising in small stock production as well as practical training in mohair and wool.

She is passionate about empowering emerging farmers to become commercial Angora goat farmers, and strives to uplift them and, in so doing, strengthen the mohair industry.

PRESIDENT OF THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF NEW SOUTH WALES (RAS)

John Bennett OAM has served as President of the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales (RAS) since 2023 and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to agricultural and show societies.

His show commitment began in 2001 with the Nowra Show Society, where he served as President (2005–2010) as well as Ringmaster and Chief Steward of Attractions.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Robyn Sermon was born and raised on a farm in the wheatbelt region of Western Australia (WA) and has 30 years’ experience across the education, agriculture, mining and health sectors focusing on regional development, stakeholder engagement and community infrastructure.

She has been the CEO of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA since 2022, the first female CEO in 193 years. Robyn is leading the society through a growth period including redevelopment of the Showground and runs the Perth Royal Show which is WA’s largest community event.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE CALGARY STAMPEDE

Joel Cowley was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Calgary Stampede on September 1, 2021. He leads a group of 360 full-time employees, 1,000 part-time employees, 4,000 seasonal employees, and 3,000 volunteers in conducting both the 10-day Calgary Stampede as well as numerous events on Stampede Park throughout the year. The business model includes the operation of the one million square foot BMO Convention Centre, a charitable casino, two working ranches totalling 31,000 acres, and the Calgary Stampede Foundation, which provides educational activities for more than 17,000 youth each year.

Elmarie Prinsloo is the CEO of the Showgrounds Development Trust and the Central Agricultural Society, trading as Bloem Show, a non-profit organisation that annually presents one of the country’s three largest shows, combining the commerce, industry and agricultural sections. Over the past 15 years, the organisation has played a key role in property development, including the Showgate Shopping Centre and Megapark.

BOARD MEMBER OF NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL FIELDAYS SOCIETY

Jenni Vernon is a Board Member and Immediate Past President of the New Zealand National Fieldays Society. In 2023, she was elected the first female President/Board Chair in its 55-year history.

Jenni is a Waikato farmer and businesswoman who has been on the board for more than a decade and also served as Vice President for three years. She brings a wealth of experience to agriculture, having spent more than four decades in farming and governance, and being the first female Nuffield Scholar and the first woman chair of Environment Waikato.

Melt Loubser is a distinguished South African business leader, engineer, and dairy industry pioneer with more than 40 years of experience. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch and began his career managing major civil engineering projects, where he developed strong technical expertise and leadership capabilities.

In January 1995, Melt became a founding member of the Fair Cape Dairies Group of Companies and has served as its Managing Director ever since. Under his leadership, Fair Cape has grown into one of South Africa’s most respected dairy organisations, earning industry-wide recognition and numerous awards at the South African Dairy Championships over the past six years.

NATIONAL YOUNG FARMER OF THE YEAR, SOUTH AFRICA

Francois Rossouw was named the 2025 Toyota SA/Agri SA National Young Farmer of the Year after receiving the 2025 Agri Western Cape Santam Young Farmer of the Year title.

Francois began his career in 2018 after completing his studies in Agricultural Economics at Stellenbosch University, joining his family’s table grape farming business in the Hex River Valley.

From the outset, he was immersed in the operational, financial and strategic aspects of a highly competitive and export-driven industry. Working in one of South Africa’s leading grape-producing regions, Francois has gained hands-on experience across all areas of the business, including production planning, cost management, logistics, and market alignment. This exposure has allowed him to bridge the gap between agricultural theory and practical implementation, while developing a strong understanding of the sector.

WESTERN CAPE PRESTIGE AGRICULTURAL WORKER OF THE YEAR

Shannon Robertson, Assistant Livestock Manager from Boschendal Estate, was crowned the 2025 Western Cape Prestige Agri Worker of the Year at the Western Cape Department of Agriculture’s Annual Prestige Agri Awards.

Shannon hails from Kuilsriver, Cape Town. Her passion for agriculture was ignited by her grandparents who were subsistence farmers from Jamestown, Stellenbosch. After school, Shannon obtained a BSc degree in Conservation Ecology and Entomology at Stellenbosch University.

Before her position as Assistant Livestock Manager, she did an internship at Boschendal where she was exposed to different farming practices, providing her the opportunity to gain experience in working with plants, soil, insects and livestock. It was at the livestock sector where her true passion for agriculture was highlighted and recognised – so much that the position of Assistant Livestock Manager was offered to her.

Emily Norton ARAgS (Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies) is a Norfolk farmer and founder of Farm Foresight Ltd, a strategic advisory service for the rural sector.

With 25 years across food, farming and land use systems, Emily brings practical insight from farm to policy level.

Originally qualified as lawyer before undertaking an MSc in Sustainable Agriculture, her career has taken her from family business to global PLC, with time spent in Brussels and across the UK.

Nigel Lok

CO-OWNER OF ROBHOEK DAIRY FARM, EASTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA

A stalwart of South Africa’s dairy industry, Nigel Lok has shaped the sector through more than four decades of hands-on farming and sustained leadership. He is widely recognised for advancing sustainable farming practices and championing technology adoption across the sector.

His influence spans key industry structures, including long-standing involvement with the Milk Producers’ Organisation (MPO) as national chairperson, along with 15 years of regional service, and contributions to the Large Herds Conference. He has served on the board of Milk South Africa since 2012, where he continues to assist in research, development and enterprise growth. Recently, he led the Humansdorp Co-op through a complex merger with SSK, strengthening the long-term resilience of agricultural businesses in the Eastern Cape.

Tanya Lok represents the next generation of agricultural leadership, combining deep farming roots with strong professional expertise. She grew up on Robhoek in the Tsitsikamma, where farm life shaped her values and remains central to her identity.

After school, she completed a combined degree in law and accounting at Stellenbosch University and began her legal career at ENS, Africa’s largest law firm, in 2010. She specialised as a Corporate Commercial attorney in a high-performance environment before joining Dommisse Attorneys, where she became a director.

Stefan Gerber is an entrepreneur whose career bridges agriculture, manufacturing, and innovation. Originally trained in winemaking, he spent years consulting internationally across wine production, quality systems, agricultural processing, and premium manufacturing, gaining first-hand experience of how value can be created from natural raw materials through quality, traceability, and sustainability.

Driven by a lifelong passion for farming, Stefan returned to agriculture and identified an opportunity to apply the same principles that have helped build successful wine brands to South Africa’s wool industry. This vision led to the growth of Gerber & Co, a business dedicated to transforming African wool into high-value textile and technical products.

Will Streatfeild grew up on a mixed family farming enterprise in Dorset, England, where his family produced and marketed cheese and bacon and maintained a long-standing association with the Royal Bath & West Show. Early involvement in the show environment sparked a lifelong appreciation for agricultural societies and their role in supporting rural communities.

After completing a degree in Agriculture at the University of Reading, Will began his career managing one of the United Kingdom’s largest dairy herds, gaining valuable practical experience in livestock production and farm management. He later specialised in agricultural sustainability, joining Alltech E-CO₂, where he worked with farmers, retailers, and processors to measure carbon emissions and develop practical, profitable sustainability solutions across agricultural supply chains.

Tobie Payne

Tobie Payne was raised in the country town of Parkes in central New South Wales (NSW), Australia. He developed a strong connection to agriculture early on, attending Yanco Agricultural High School, a full-time boarding school with a working farm, before completing a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Charles Sturt University, studying subjects across economics, agronomy and animal science.

Tobie has worked across government and industry, including as Advisor to a Federal Senator in the Australian Parliament and as Agriculture Advisor to the New South Wales Minister for Agriculture, with policy responsibilities spanning agriculture, biosecurity and forestry. He contributed to major initiatives, including the unprecedented floods in NSW, livestock recovery efforts and emerging biosecurity threats that continue to threaten Australia today.

RASC HONORARY SECRETARY, FORMER SECRETARY OF THE ROYAL CORNWALL AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION

Christopher (Chris) Riddle is a respected figure in the UK agricultural sector, with a lifelong commitment to agricultural societies and industry organisations. Based in North Cornwall, he currently serves as Honorary Secretary of the RASC, following many years as a Trustee.

He began his career with the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association in 1979 and was appointed Secretary in 1989 at the age of 25, becoming one of the youngest to hold such a position at a major UK agricultural show. He served in this role until his retirement in 2024, continuing a remarkable family legacy, with his father having held the same position from 1957 to 1989.
